Chrysophylax Dives is the name of the dragon from the tale Farmer Giles of Ham, from 1947.

The dragon descended to Ham after meeting The Giant, in the process burning Oakley to the ground. Rich, vain, and arrogant, he was capable of compromise if handled correctly.

Farmer Giles learned that he can be bullied, but is smart enough not to push him to desperation. He used the sword Caudimordax to capture and control the dragon.

Etymology

Chrysophylax (Χρυσοφύλαξ) is Greek for "gold-guard" and dīves is Latin for "rich"
