Beleriand was a large part in the northwest of Middle-earth, south of the Fjord of Drengist and west of the Blue Mountains. It was divided into West- and Eastbeleriand with the river Sirion as borderline. Originally the name only referred to the land around the Island of Balar meaning "The Land of Balar" but the term Beleriand was later used for the whole northwest coast. At the end of the First Age it was flooded and destroyed by the ocean and all that is left of it is Lindon
