Template:Royalty infobox Arahad I (T.A. 2365 - 2523, died aged 158) was the seventh Chieftain of the Dúnedain, following his father, Araglas, when he died in 2455.
History
During his rule, in 2460, Sauron returned to Dol Guldur with increaed stength, and thus the Watchful Peace was ended. In response to this, the White Council is formed in Rivendell consisting of wizards (with Saruman as its head) and elf-lords.
Also during his rule, orcs began to increase and multiply in the Misty Mountains, and on one trip from Lothlorien and Rivendell, in 2509, the orcs revealed themselves, and Celebrían's escort was waylaid and she was taken and tortured. Her sons Elladan and Elrohir rescued her, but she no longer wished to stay in Middle-earth, so left for Valinor in 2510.
Arahad died in 2523, after having ruled for sixty-eight years, and was followed by his son, Aragost.
Etymology
Arahad's name is Sindarin, but it's etymology is uncertain. It contains the usual royal prefix ara- meaning "king", but the had is a litle harder to work out. It could be had meaning "hurl, throw", it could be sad (lenited to had) meaning "place, spot", or it could be related to sador meaning "faithful person".
