Ambar-metta is a composition of two Quenya words, ambar, here "world", and metta, "end". As such, it refers to the "end of the world", possibly to the Dagor Dagorath. It was part of a line used by Elendil upon his arrival to Middle-earth, "Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien. Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta". Elessar would later use this line at his coronation. The line translates to "Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world".
