- 1967 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes a letter to a Mr Joukes.
- 1968 - Billy Boyd, who would play Peregrin Took in The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy, is born.
- 1973 - J.R.R. Tolkien takes a holiday to visit friends in Bournemouth. He would die there 5 days later.
- 1987 - John Huston, the voice of Gandalf in Rankin/Bass' The Hobbit and The Return of the King, dies.
