- 1993 - Magyar Tolkien Tarsasag, the Hungarian Tolkien Society, is founded.
- 1996 - Alexandra Astin, who would play Elanor Gamgee in Peter Jackson's The Return of the King, is born.
- 2006 - Anthony Jackson, the Tale Bearer in the 1968 radio series of The Hobbit, dies.
