- 1953 - J.R.R. Tolkien gives the W.P. Ker Lecture at Glasgow University on the religious themes adultery, temptation and repentance in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
- 1962 - Tom Kane, who would voice Gandalf in the video game The Fellowship of the Ring and the narrator in The Hobbit, is born.
- 2003 - The Art of The Two Towers is published.
